  1. Define the concepts of policy and social policy, and explain what these terms mean
  2. Discuss the theories and frameworks that underpin the development of social policy
  3. Outline the historical evolution of Irish social policy
  4. Analyse Irish social policy and family policy through an examination of government responses to social issues in Ireland
  5. Discuss policy regarding the Irish early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector, including the development of the childcare infrastructure
  6. Explain how the EU has influenced policy in the ECEC sector
  7. Compare and contrast the Irish ECEC model with the approach taken by other states to ECEC delivery and funding
  8. Discuss international literature on best practice in the ECEC sector
  9. Discuss key and emerging issues in the ECEC sector across different states
