OY2111: Communication for Practice
Semester 1 | Credits: 5
The aim of this module is to build on the knowledge, skills and attitudes regarding communication introduced in year one and develop the key personal, professional, and inter-professional communication skills essential for occupational therapy practice. There are two components to this module. Part one focuses on inter-professional learning and communication, person centred care and team working. Part two focuses on the communication skills for occupational therapy practice.

Learning Outcomes
- To demonstrate appropriate and professional interprofessional working, collaboration and decision making
- To demonstrate appropriate verbal and non- verbal communication which can be adapted appropriately when working with with clients, carers, families, as well as other health and social care professionals
- To demonstrate appropriate written communication skills relevant to practices standard
- To apply the theories and professional standards as well as work place expectations to both written and verbal communication in practice
- To demonstrate a working knowledge augmentative and alternative communication approaches including the use of assistive technology
