The aim of this course is to provide insights into the dynamics of intercultural communication by focusing on key concepts and intercultural communication issues.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Develop an informed understanding of the relationship that exists between language and culture and the role that they play in intercultural communication.
  2. Illustrate the importance of understanding culture and language in context.
  3. Reflect on your own intercultural communication skills and the manner in which you can develop them to enable you to become interculturally competent.
  4. Describe linguistic and non-verbal dimensions of the Irish culture and your own culture.
  5. Recognise cultural dimensions presented in texts, fiction and in the media focusing on intercultural communication.
  6. Describe the needs of the Hospitality industry regarding professional intercultural communication.
  7. Describe the challenges of the issues that relate to intercultural communication.
  8. Develop an awareness about the complexity of intercultural interactions.
  9. Develop your critical thinking skills by analysing issues related to your own cultural identity and intercultural communication issues.
  10. Demonstrate the importance of developing intercultural communication skills at personal and professional levels.
