The course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to the principles upon which financial accounting is based which will serve as an understanding and analysis of financial statements and will serve as a solid foundation to further courses in this area.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Explain the importance of financial accounting within the hospitality industry.
  2. Recognise the importance of recording, handling and summarising accounting data.
  3. Describe and apply the fundamental accounting concepts.
  4. Understand the basic principles of double entry.
  5. Prepare the final accounts of a sole trader and limited company.
  6. Provide an interpretation of a business's financial performance.
  7. Describe an account for value added tax with specific reference to the hospitality industry.
