ECS101 Psychology – The Developing Child 1
The objective of this module is to introduce a range of theories in relation to the holistic development of young children and to look at their application in early childhood care and practice settings. The module will also provide students with an insight into atypical child development. The module will look at the role of adults in planning a child-centred environment.
It will examine the role of recorded observations and their use in developing objectives and plans for the holistic development of young children.
On successful completion of this module the student should be able to:
- Display a mastery of theories in relation to the holistic development of infants and toddlers
- Describe patterns of holistic development in young children
- Identify atypical development in infants and toddlers
- Plan a child-centred environment for young children
- Explain the role of adults in supporting the holistic development of infants and toddlers
- Appreciate the role of play in child development
- Conduct in-depth observations of young children and accordingly create appropriate holistic development plans.
