ECS103 Creative Development in Early Years
This module will allow students the opportunity to explore and understand their role as facilitators and supporters of creative expression in young children. A theoretical approach will be used to consider the value of extending play through the use of music, movement, storytelling, art and drama in early years’ settings.
When you have successfully completed this module you should be able to:
- Discuss theories of creative development
- Identify the role of music, movement, storytelling, art and drama in creative development
- Discuss the importance of play in child development
- Apply the skills needed to be effective in promoting a child’s creative development
- Explain schemas in relation to a child’s creativity and learning
- Discuss how children communicate in the creative process
- Recognise the importance of having a good practice approach within an inclusive and creative environment
- Examine the role of the family in promoting a child’s creative development
- Apply theory to practice when using of a variety of environments and materials to support creative expression in young children
- Design, plan and implement activities for young children in a variety of creative areas
- Ensure an enriching and creative environment and curriculum for children
Module is delivered using a blended learning approach. Students will access learning materials in advance of the workshop and will participate in online learning activities in advance of the module workshop.
