SP3200 Introduction to Human Rights; Rights and Responsibilities
This module will introduce students to the study of human rights. It will examine the philosophical origins of human rights and will examine a range of human rights issues and abuses at both domestic and global levels. It will provide theoretical and practical frameworks for understanding human rights issues. The role and function of intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations will be explored in terms of how they promote, implement and protect human rights.
The module will enable students to gain skills in becoming active advocates in raising awareness about human rights. One workshop per semester. Online lectures in the form of screencasts, podcast and live Blackboard Collaborate Ultra sessions. Continuous assessment will examine all module level learning outcomes via online learning activities, essay and/or project. Collaborate Ultra lectures.2 x Half Day Weekend Workshops
