Creative Arts at University of Galway

University of Galway is a leading international centre for the creative arts, with strong specialisms in Drama, Film, Creative Writing, Digital Media, Publishing and more. We offer unique and innovative courses at undergraduate, MA and PhD level, including practice-based PhDs – and we place strong emphasis on blending academic skills with practical experience.

Our programmes are based on world-leading research, with all classes taught by leading academics and practitioners, and our courses are underpinned by strong partnerships with the creative arts sector, notably with such institutions as Druid Theatre, the Abbey Theatre, Galway International Arts Festival, and more. Students on many of our programmes have opportunities to take internships with these and other groups.

Film Studies

In September 2008, the Huston School commenced its first undergraduate degree programme: BA (Connect) with Film Studies. This offering is unique in Ireland, allowing students to pursue a traditional double-subject Bachelor of Arts degree with an extra specialisation in Film Studies.

The strength and diversity of the Huston's programme is linked with Galway city's far flung fame as a unique centre of culture and creativity. The presence in the school of so many interrelated courses, in a city of so much creative industry, enhances the experience of students of each individual programme. Read more about the course here
