The research being conducted in CÚRAM, SFI Research Centre for Medical Devices is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Science Foundation Ireland under Ireland’s European Structural and Investment Fund (Grant Number 13/RC/2073)

CÚRAM is working to make life easier for patients suffering from chronic illness by enhancing and developing medical devices that can last longer in the body and be more in tune to the needs of the individual patient, so as to alleviate human suffering. CÚRAM aims to develop affordable, innovative and transformative device-based solutions to treat global chronic diseases. 

Key Objectives: 

  • Establish a world-leading Irish Medical Device R&D Centre to improve and enhance traditional medical devices and develop the next generation of medical implants, cell and drug device combination products to address unmet clinical needs 
  • Partner with local SMEs and multinational medical device and pharmaceutical companies to create new employment opportunities
  • Create training in medical device research and clinical application for academia, industry and clinicians
  • Develop Intellectual Property with commercial and clinical relevance and with licensing and spin-out potential

CÚRAM is generating outputs and results under three main headings: Scientific ExcellenceIndustry Engagement and Education and Public Engagement.

CÚRAM works on a diversity of projects with other funding agencies.‌
