Dr Cathal Kearney joined the RCSI Tissue Engineering Research Group as a Marie Skłowdowska Curie Research Fellow in 2014 and became a Lecturer in the Anatomy Department in 2017. In 2004, he received a B.A., B.A.I., in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering from TCD. As a Fulbright Scholar, Dr Kearney completed a MEng in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, USA. IN 2011 he received a PhD from the Harvard/MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, supervised by Dr Myron Spector's. Dr Kearney completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Prof. David Mooney's Laboratory in Harvard's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences where he focused on the development of stimuli-responsive materials for spatiotemporal control of drug delivery, as well as the interplay between immune cells (specifically macrophages) and regenerative medicine strategies. Dr Kearney was awarded an ERC Starter Grant in 2017 to develop novel for diabetic foot ulcers. The Kearney Lab focuses on understanding how cells receive information from their environment and how this information flow can be controlled.

Dr Kearney will present projects that describe the cross-talk between biomaterials, bioactive factors and cells, with a focus on regenerative medicine applications. 

The title of Dr Kearney's talk is "Biomaterials for Temporally Controlled Delivery of Drugs, Genes and Cells"
