Enrico Bagnoli ,CÚRAM PhD Candidate.

Enrico obtained a BSc in Biomedical Engineering in 2013, and, in 2016, a MSc in Bioengineering (curriculum Biomaterials and Rehabilitation Technologies) at the University of Genoa, Italy while being part of the Institute of Excellence in Information and Communication technologies (ISICT).

 

After working on drug delivery systems for cancer therapy at the University of Limerick, he was recruited as an Early Stage Researcher within the BrainMatTrain project in 2016. Enrico’s research, supervised by Dr Una FitzGerald, focused on the creation of novel models of Parkinson’s disease able to recapitulate olfactory pathology using both in vitro and ex vivo systems. Additionally, his work evaluated the use of smelling test as a potential biomarker for Parkinson’s disease in an Irish cohort.

 

During his PhD, Enrico authored three manuscripts, presented his work at international and national conferences including TERMIS, FENS and NECTAR and was the recipient of travel awards from the Gordon research conferences, the British neuroscience association and Neuroscience Ireland. He was also the recipient of the Thomas Crawford Hayes grant and winner of the Wikipedia Scientific Image competition.
