As a first step, consult your College handbook to check if a repeat exam sitting opportunity is available for your course. Contact details for College Offices.
If a repeat exam sitting is available for your course and if you fail the first sitting of a formal written examination, you are automatically listed to sit the repeat exam at the second sitting e.g. if you fail a Semester 2 Summer exam, you are automatically listed to sit the repeat exam in the Autumn. Exam dates and timetables available online.
If you a fail an exam/module which was not a formal written examination (e.g. essay, project, continuous assessment), please contact your School/College to discuss your options.
Note that there is a fee for repeat examinations.
No. Students are not permitted to retake subjects/modules which have been previously passed.
You must attend the Consultation day to discuss your mark(s) with the relevant lecturer or Programme Director.
If you are attending the repeat examinations, or are repeating any form of assessment/assignment/coursework, you are liable to pay the repeat examination fee. The fee is an overall cost i.e. regardless of how many exams you repeat in the session.
The repeat examination fee is due as soon as possible following the release of results. Students can sit the repeat examination even if the repeat fee has not yet been paid. However, please note that results for repeat exams will be withheld if the repeat fee remains outstanding.
Exams are listed in your personal exam timetable for Autumn based on the assessments required for the module.
For example, if the module assessment is made up of two written exams (Semester 1 and Semester 2), then the two exams will appear on your Autumn exam timetable. Similarly, if the module assessment is made up of a written exam and a number of in-house exams/essays/projects, then the written exam will appear on your Autumn exam timetable. Please be aware that your personal exam timetable remains static and will not change.
Students are expected to present for exams listed in their personal exam timetable unless advised otherwise by their lecturer/course co-ordinator or College Office.
If your understanding is that you are not required to sit an exam listed on your personal timetable, it is recommended that you contact your lecturer or course co-ordinator directly to confirm in writing which exams you are not required to re-sit. If you are unable to contact your lecturer or course co-ordinator, please consult your College Office.
