Are you new to research student supervision or an experienced supervisor wishing to learn more about recent changes to doctoral education?
Graduate Studies hosts a wide range of supports to inform on, and develop, academic staff research supervision skills on the Research Supervision Blackboard site.
(You can check if you have access to the site by logging into Blackboard and checking if Research Supervision is listed under Training on lhs section of screen. If you do not have access to the Research Supervision site please contact graduatestudies@nuigalway.ie with your staff id and name).
This site also hosts a mirror of the Research Skills Training Resources available for Research Students on the Graduate Studies Blackboard 1GST1 site. Detail of these resources is provided in the Research Skills Training Resources Flyer 2021 and at https://www.nuigalway.ie/graduate-studies/currentstudents/training-resources/
Supervisor Seminars & Workshops 2022
4 virtual seminars/workshops will be delivered in March/April 2022
Access to each of these 4 events is provided through the Research Supervision Blackboard site and will be either a Collaborate Virtual Classroom (Seminar 1 and 2) or on Zoom (Seminar 3 and Workshop 4).
The Seminars (but not the workshop) will be recorded and made available through the Blackboard site to those who cannot attend the session.
Additional seminars and workshops are delivered during 2022 in collaboration with IUA institutions.

NEW in 2022 - IUA Research Supervisor Support & Development Programme
The IUA offers, as part of researcher support and development, a Collaborative Webinar Series from December 2021 to May 2022 to support research supervisors. See full listing below.
The Webinars are targeted at new inexperienced research supervisors and more experienced staff who would like to refresh their knowledge on aspects of research supervisory practice. These collaborative webinars address common research supervisory practices and challenges that are not institute specific. Panel discussions with experienced research supervisors, experts in the field, professional staff and students, will take place across this interactive programme.
NUI Galway HR Learning and Development team will be informed of your participation at each Webinar, to record your engagement with development opportunities.
