Smoking Restrictions

Smoking is not allowed in any building in the University and in January 2016 two smoke free zones have come into effect centred around the Hardiman Building (South campus) and the Engineering Building (North campus). This was further to a NUI Galway survey in 2013 in which the majority of staff and students expressed their preference for making the University a partially smoke-free campus. Smoke Free Zones.

November 2013 Update:
E-Cigarettes/Nicotine Vaporisers.
The UMT has discussed and accepted the view that, unless and until the Smoke Free Campus Group recommends differently, nicotine vaporisers should be subject to the same regulation within NUI Galway as cigarettes i.e. that the use of these devices within NUI Galway buildings is not acceptable.
