Neurovascular
Professor Martin O’Donnell leads a neurovascular research team which focuses on prevention of stroke and cognitive impairment/ dementia. The team recently completed the ERC funded COSIP trial, investigating sodium intake and cardiovascular health (COSIP), and lead the risk-based screening for the evaluation of atrial fibrillation trial, (R-BEAT). The group works in close collaboration with PHRI, McMaster University on the INTERBLEED and global congestive heart failure registry (G-CHF) studies, as well as ongoing analysis of the INTERSTROKE trial. In addition, the team collaborates with UCD on the international trial: colchicine for prevention of vascular inflammation in non-cardio embolic stroke (CONVINCE).
Professor Emer McGrath, who recently joined the group, trained in Neurology at Harvard University and has received a career award from Health Research Board investigating use of Biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease.
The neurovascular research group have published numerous high-impact publications in leading international journals, including NEJM, The Lancet, JAMA and BMJ.
