ILAS Launch: 11th November

NUI Galway is renowned nationally and internationally for its applied social science research and activities related to lifecourse and civic engagement. Advances made by academics, staff and students enable solid partnerships to be made between the university and wider society to advance positive social change. NUI Galway is delighted to announce the establishment of the Institute for Lifecourse and Society (ILAS) as a pioneering research institute for the applied social sciences and as a flagship of the university. The mission of ILAS is to contribute scientific and practical awareness of human capacity and potential across the lifecourse thereby impacting positively on knowledge, attitudes, policy and practice. ILAS represents a significant and innovative development in that it brings together the fields of children, youth, older people, disability and civic engagement into one domain of teaching, research, policy development and community engagement. Supported by the Atlantic Philanthropies, the Institute works in partnership with a diverse range of communities towards the development of positive social change and policy development from cradle to grave.

ILAS brings together six established centres at NUI Galway to work in partnership, including; UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre (CFRC); Irish Centre for Social Gerontology (ICSG) and Centre for Disability Law and Policy; Community Knowledge Initiative (CKI), Irish Centre for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Research (ICAN) and Health Economics and Policy Analysis (HEPA). A key ILAS initiative, entitled Project Lifecourse, bring the work of all six centres together and works with a number of stakeholders addressing service delivery nationally. In addition, a range of related research clusters from across NUI Galway and internationally contribute to the ILAS programme. The Institute for Lifecourse and Society at NUI Galway would like to invite you to the launch event to mark the official opening and launch of ILAS. For attendance please email ILAS@nuigalway.ie
