Creating a connection in the Discoverer Plus Version

Please ensure that this ENTIRE document is read - as some options have to be set before reports can be run correctly. This is documented towards the end of the document.

Connection Name is the same as Username

Locale is English.

Username –  will be the generic name used by your department or office

Password –  please check with your head of department or supervisor

Database is student.

Click go

or you can supply password and click on create connection

click Yes to the Security Warning below

click cancel below  (as you need to change 2 settings on discoverer if this is your first time  using it under your own profile)

N.B Go to Tools/Options/query Governor and De-Tick Limit Retrieved Data To:  (you will need only to do this once under your own profile on your pc)


Click on Advanced and Tick Disable Fan-Trap Detection  (you will need to do this once only under your own profile on your pc)


Click on Ok and Exit.

Go to File, open, and highlight  your workbook to open

Go to File, exit to quit out of discoverer


How to Export to Excel from Discoverer Web

  1. Click on the Export to Excel button (this is the end button on the top toolbar)
  2. It goes to documents and settings folder (for Windows XP) and to C:Users your staff id folder for Windows 7
    Click on Export to Excel button again to see the location
  3. Alternatively you can go to File (top left hand corner) and select Export to Excel
