THE World Rankings Overview

NUI Galway applies annually the Times Higher Education World Ranking along with over a 1,500 other universities.  The Times Higher Education investigates five key areas known as the performance indicators, using rigorous standards and global benchmarks across all University's key missions.

Five key areas; Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income and reputation); Citations (research influence);
International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry income (knowledge transfer).

NUI Galway did particularly well in this ranking in 2016 and 2017 achieving a rank in the 200-250 band. However, the recent three years have seen NUI Galway declining in rank. NUI Galway was ranked in the 351-400 band in the results published September 2021, in THE World University Rankings for the year 2022.
