The discipline of Physiology is actively engaged in numerous outreach activities each year. We feel it is important to communicate and liase with the public to encourage and engage young minds into studying physiology and highlight the study opportunities available at NUI Galway. Presenting research interests and findings to the lay community is important such the public are aware and encouraged by the ongoing research in the university and its impact it could have for them and their families into the future. Such reports and findings are often communicated in the local, national and international media and thus have received wide attention.

Dr Ananya Gupta created the “Get Fit & Stay Fit” initiative as part of the START competition 2019 award ceremony workshop for primary school children. This initative shows the importance of physical activity and staying fit

Publications and Presentations

In addition, the principal investigators and researcher routinely give presentations or publish their research to communicate findings to the larger scientific community and the lay public.

A Tiny Spark, been awarded Best Medical Short at Sci On! Film Festival in Nevada. The film focuses on the first study of its kind in the world, which is being led by NUI Galway Neuroscientist, Dr Karen Doyle and involves the analysis of removed blood clots to determine what information they may yield and could point to big improvements to people’s lives.
