Students at The School of Nursing and Midwifery have access to a wide range of facilities to support their learning.

Clinical Skills Labs

 ‌‌‌‌

Students at the School of Nursing and Midwifery have access to two large state of the art Clinical Skills Laboratories, a Health Assessment Laboratory and a Self-Directed Skills Room. The laboratories simulate a hospital unit, enabling students to relate theory to practice.

The skills labs contain a variety of mannequins, hospital beds (equipped with oxygen supply units, suction control and call bell) drug trolleys and much more. Some clinical models are very sophisticated in their design in that an alarm will sound if students perform a skill incorrectly such as intramuscular injection technique. Each Clinical Skills Laboratory has a SimMan®. The mannequin is an advanced adult patient simulator which is used for team training. SimMan® has realistic anatomy and clinical functionality and provides simulation-based education to challenge and test students’ clinical and decision-making skills during realistic patient care scenarios.

The Health Assessment Laboratory is similar in its layout to the Clinical Skills Laboratories and is equipped with mannequins such as Noelle® and SimBaby® which are pertinent to the midwifery programmes.
