The School of Nursing and Midwifery is research-intensive with a reputation for high quality, internationally relevant research. Our research aims to improve nursing and midwifery practice, the health of those receiving nursing and midwifery care and inform health care policy.

 The School’s key research interests, expertise and activities are centred on the following themes: 

Staff at the School of Nursing and Midwifery are leading or are co-applicants on research funded by the Health Research Board, SFI, Enterprise Ireland and the Europen Commission.

The School has a strong commitment to collaborative research. Many of our staff have established international research collaborations with networks and universities across Europe, as well as universities in Canada and Japan. 

The School also collaborates extensively with national agencies and groups, including the statutory Health Services, Department of Health, acute hospital services, voluntary agencies and other state bodies. Staff also have strong partnerships with academics from other disciplines across NUI Galway.
