Public Lecture Series Elder Abuse

The School of Nursing and Midwifery held a Public Lecture Series event on Elder Abuse to provide awareness  of the abuse of older adults and highlighted the need for appropriate action.

Mayor of Galway County, Mary Hoade also attended the event and signed an Elder Abuse Day Proclamation to recognise and celebrate Galway's seniors.

The event was held on Monday 15 June 2015 to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is held on 15 June each year. The day is an opportunity for communities around the world to engage in activities that raise public awareness of elder abuse.

Speakers included Pascal Moynihan Office of the Specialist and National Safeguarding Office (HSE), Bridget McDaid Senior Safegaurding and Older Persons Officer (HSE), Freda Quinlan Protection and Welfare of Older People (HSE West) and Claire Ó Tuathail, lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

The event also included the book launch of Nursing Case Studies on Improving Health-Related Quality of Life in Older Adults, co-authored by Professor Kathy Murphy from the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
