Biography

Eithne Murphy has studied at University College Dublin, Kiel Institute of World Economics, European University Institute, Florence and SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies), University of London.

She previously worked in the Irish Civil Service, UCD and Teagasc (The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority). She has been a visiting fellow at Stanford and a visiting lecturer at La Sapienza, Rome. In the past, she was the recipient of a Jean Monnet activity at NUIG.

Her research work has spanned agriculture and the environment, European integration, cost of living measurements for heterogeneous groups, and latterly, history of economic thought as it applies to international trade theory. Her current predominant research interests are history of economic thought and economic methodology. She has conducted EU funded work on CAP reforms as well as Combat Poverty Agency funded work. She has published in the International Review of Applied Economics, Ecological Economics, Land Use Policy and inter-disciplinary  journals like Studies and Administration as well as several books.
