Biography

Sorcha is a graduate of NUI Maynooth and the University of Warwick, where she was also a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Warwick Research Collective. She is Associate Fellow of the HEA UK and, before coming to NUI Galway, held posts at the universities of Warwick and Lincoln. 

Broadly speaking, her research deals with social justice and the interconnections between literature and society. Her interests cover: gender studies and feminism, contemporary world literature, globalization and world-systems, literary and cultural theory, postcolonial writing, popular fiction, and South African and Irish writing. Her monograph Space, Place and Gendered Violence in South African Writing was published by Palgrave in 2015. She has published a number of journal articles and chapters. Currently, she is working on a journal article for a special issue of the Journal of Southern Africa Studies on Nadine Gordimer (December 2016), editing a special issue of Atlantic Studies: Global Currents that looks at world literature in the Atlantic region (June 2017), and is contributing a chapter on reading Irish romance fiction through a world literature lens for OUP's Handbook of Modern Irish Fiction (2017). She is the founder member of the World Literature Network
