Biography

Yvonne Conway is a registered general nurse and nurse tutor with specialist clinical experience in Emergency nursing in the UK, Ireland and USA.  Yvonne has a particular interest in trauma nursing and worked in a number of level 1 trauma centres in the States.  Her clinical certifications included Pre-hospital Trauma life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Cardiac life Support (ACLS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) instructor.  She has a first class honours (1st) Masters in primary care from the Royal College of Surgeons.  She developed and directed the Post Graduate Diploma in Nursing (Emergency) for AMNCH Hospital and Trinity College Dublin from 1998 – 2002.  She was Programme Director for the Master/Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Emergency) from 2008 - 2020 and has been  programme director for the Master/Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Acute Medicine) in NUI Galway since its development in 2013. Research interests include – Emergency Nursing, Primary care, Post Graduate Specialist Nurse Education, Acute Medicine, Mental health issues in Emergency Nursing.  She has been an external examiner for undergraduate nursing programmes and served six years on the College Health Sciences Ethics Committee.  She is the chair of the Examination Security Group (ESG) for NUIG.  She was a co-applicant on the Health Research Board funded PRINCE study (2007) and National Office for Suicide Prevention funded SCAN review study (2012) carried out by the nursing and midwifery department NUI Galway.  She is currently the Postgraduate Co-ordinator   over postgraduate offerings within the department of nursing and midwifery. Her current research interests lie in the area of systematic reviews.
