In these extraordinary times...

...we ask our students and staff to be part of the University community, to behave appropriately, to consider others, to follow our advice and the public health guidelines, to act responsibly and to uphold the core value of our institution - respect - to respect everyone in the University and the wider community.

We ask everyone at the University to commit to the following - Cúram Dá Chéile, our community promise:

  • I will follow NUI Galway and Public Health Guidelines related to reducing the spread of COVID-19. I understand that this is likely to change regularly so I will take personal responsibility for ensuring I am up-to-date with the latest information which is available at www.nuigalway.ie/alert.
  • If I begin to suffer with COVID-19 symptoms I will report these using the processes within the University, which are based on Public Health Guidelines, and follow guidance to self-isolate and get a test. I accept the role that I have to play in making sure that the areas where we live, work and study are as safe as they can be.
  • I will show empathy, respect and due consideration to others – my friends and peers, my colleagues, the wider community, and all of those who help me achieve my goals while at University. I note that this commitment sits alongside the University’s policies around harassment and intimidation, that I have a duty to assist in establishing an environment in which harassment, bullying and victimisation are regarded as unacceptable.
  • I understand the importance of providing friendship, helping people avoid loneliness and isolation, and supporting others. Therefore, I will look out for my friends and those I live, learn or work with.
  • If I am challenged about my behaviour I will respond in an open, positive, and respectful manner – listening carefully to understand the concern and, where my behaviour is contrarty to University Policy, Procedure and Guidance, changing my behaviour to remove it. University Policy, Procedure and Guidance includes fair procedure and due process and will, at all times, take into account the circumstances as provided for in Public Health Guidelines and/or in cases of illness, disability or similar. I understand and accept that wilfully and repeatedly breaching University guidance could lead to me being subject to disciplinary processes as outlined in applicable University policies the Student Code of Conduct.  If I see situations that are contrary to guidance, I will remove myself from those situations as soon as possible.
  • I know that this is an ever developing situation – one which requires everyone’s ongoing vigilance and personal responsibility.

Sa tréimhse neamhghnách seo...

... táimid ag iarraidh ar ár gcuid mac léinn agus comhaltaí foirne clárú chun a bheith páirteach i bpobal na hOllscoile, iad féin a iompar go cuí, smaoineamh ar dhaoine eile, ár gcomhairle agus treoirlínte sláinte poiblí a leanúint, gníomhú go freagrach agus tacú le bunluach na hinstitiúide - is é sin meas - meas a léiriú ar gach duine san Ollscoil agus sa phobal níos leithne.

Táimid ag iarraidh ar gach duine san Ollscoil tiomantas a thabhairt don mhéid seo a leanas - Cúram dá Chéile, ár ngealltanas pobail:

  • Leanfaidh mé comhairle OÉ Gaillimh agus na Treoirlínte Sláinte Poiblí maidir le srian a chur le scaipeadh COVID-19. Tuigim gur dócha go dtiocfaidh athrú orthu seo ar bhonn rialta agus glacfaidh mé freagracht phearsanta as cinntiú go bhfuil an t-eolas is déanaí agam atá ar fáil ag www.nuigalway.ie/alert.
  • Má airím go bhfuil siomptóim COVID-19 ag teacht orm, déanfaidh mé iad a thuairisciú trí phróisis na hOllscoile a úsáid atá bunaithe ar na Treoirlínte Sláinte Poiblí agus leanfaidh mé leis an treoir maidir le féin-aonrú agus tástáil a fháil. Glacaim leis an ról atá le comhlíonadh agam maidir le cinntiú go bhfuil na limistéir a bhfuilimid inár gcónaí iontu, agus ag obair agus ag staidéar iontu, chomh sábháilte agus is féidir.
  • Léireoidh mé comhbhá, meas agus tuiscint ar dhaoine eile – mo chairde agus mo phiaraí, mo chomhghleacaithe sa phobal níos leithne, agus iad siúd ar fad a chabhraíonn liom na spriocanna atá agam san Ollscoil a bhaint amach. Tuigim go bhfuil an tiomantas seo le tabhairt i gcomhthéacs pholasaithe na hOllscoile maidir le ciapadh agus imeaglú agus go bhfuil dualgas orm cabhrú leis an iarracht chun timpeallacht a chothú ina ndiúltaítear do chiapadh, bulaíocht agus íospairt.
  • Tuigim an tábhacht a bhaineann le cairdeas a chothú, cabhrú le daoine an t-uaigneas agus an t-aonrú a sheachaint, agus tacú le daoine eile. Coinneoidh mé súil, mar sin, ar mo chairde agus orthu siúd a bhfuilim i mo chónaí leo, i mbun foghlama leo nó ag obair leo.
  • Má thugtar mo dhúshlán faoi m’iompar, freagróidh mé ar bhealach oscailte, dearfach agus measúil - éistfidh mé go cúramach chun an t-ábhar imní a thuiscint agus, nuair nach dtagann m'iompar le Polasaí, le Nós Imeachta ná le Treoir na hOllscoile, athróidh mé m’iompar dá réir. Cuimsíonn Polasaí, Nós Imeachta agus Treoir na hOllscoile nós imeachta cothrom agus próiseas cuí agus cuirfidh sé na cúinsí mar a fhoráiltear sna Treoirlínte Sláinte Poiblí agus/nó i gcásanna breoiteachta, míchumais nó a leithéid san áireamh i gcónaí. Tuigim agus glacaim leis gur gníomh mí-iompair atá i gceist le treoir na hOllscoile a shárú go toilteanach agus ar bhonn leanúnach, agus go bhféadfainn a bheith faoi réir ag próisis araíonachta a bhfuil cur síos orthu i bpolasaithe infheidhme na hOllscoile agus i gCód Iompair na Mac Léinn.  Má thagaim ar shuíomh nach bhfuil ag teacht leis an treoir atá tugtha, imeoidh mé amach ó na cásanna sin a luaithe agus is féidir.
  • Tá a fhios agam go bhfuil an scéal seo ag athrú ar bhonn leanúnach, agus nach mór do gach duine a bheith san airdeall agus freagracht phearsanta a ghlacadh.
