Academic Year 2021-22

The priority for NUI Galway and the School of Engineering for the upcoming academic year 2021-22 will be to maximise the student experience by making on-site teaching and learning available as much as possible, while continuing to adhere strictly to the evolving public health advice.

The following comments relate to 2nd year, 3rd year, 4th year and taught masters students, and are based on current university sector guidelines as applied within NUI Galway.

  • A significant amount of on-site teaching and learning activities are planned for the coming semester, spread over the course of each week. Thus, it is expected that students will attend in person for the whole semester.
  • On average, we expect that there will be at least 1 hour of on-site teaching per week per module (typically six modules per semester). In addition, all on-site laboratory practicals and on-site project work will proceed as close to normal as possible. On-site tutorials will also be held.
  • Plans may have to be revised subject to any changes in public health guidelines over the course of the academic year.
  • Further updates, including detailed class timetables, will be issued in due course, in advance of start of term.
  • Students who have a difficulty in attending on campus (such as those with health conditions or international students) should contact the school at Engineering@nuigalway.ie

Guidelines for incoming 1st year students will be published shortly and a meaningful on-campus learning experience is also planned for them.
