Power Electronics
Power electronics technology involves the use of power semiconductor devices for the control and conversion of electrical power from one form to another.
Power electronics is a multidisciplinary branch of engineering that consists detailed study of semiconductor physics, electrical motors, electromagnetic devices, control systems, power supplies and thermal analysis.
The Power Electronics Research Centre (PERC) at NUI Galway was established by Professor William Gerard Hurley and is currently led by Dr. Maeve Duffy.
The Power Electronics and Energy Conversion research priority is delivered by the Power Electronics Research Centre (PERC) which has three research themes currently associated with it:
Power Conversion for Renewable Energy and Energy Harvesting
High Frequency Power Converters for Computing Applications
Power Electronics for Medical Devices
