Erasmus Trainee

Charlie KeeneyCharlie is studying Marine Biology and Oceanography at Plymouth University and is visiting NUI Galway on a year-long Erasmus Traineeship.  Charlie is annotating deep-sea video taken with the ROV Holland I as part of the SFI-funded project “Exploiting and Conserving Deep-Sea Genetic Resources”. His work is generating data for predictive modelling of the distribution of deep-sea corals and sponges. Predicting the distribution of these organisms is important for ensuring species with pharmacological potential are adequately conserved for future generations.  Charlie has a long-standing interest in the deep sea, and hopes to do further research in this area upon graduating.
