Research Assistant

Edel SheerinEdel obtained a BSc in Zoology from NUI Galway and subsequently interned within the Molecular Ecology Research Group at Waterford Institute of Technology. Following this she worked as Project Assistant on the Mammals in a Sustainable Environment (MISE) Project - which fostered community involvement in mammal conservation through non-invasive survey techniques complemented with DNA analysis. Edel is currently using DNA barcoding and microsatellite analyses to assess cephalopod stock composition in the NE Atlantic. ‘Cephs and Chefs’ is a multi-disciplinary project, combining fisheries science, socio-economics, gastronomy and marketing with the aim of developing sustainable cephalopod fisheries in the Atlantic Area.
