Biography

Dr Ana Gonzalez-Suarez is a Research Fellow in the Translational Medical Device Lab (TMDLab) and has an Honorary Adjunct Lectureship Appointment at the University of Galway. She is currently leading SFI-IRC Pathway project "HEART-SAVE: Developing a next-generation non-thermal treatment for cardiac arrhythmia"  (22/PATH-S/10719). She received her B.Sc. in Telecommunication Engineering, her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Polytecnic University of Valencia, Spain. Her current research is focused on non-invasive ablative tecniques for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. 

Prior to joining TMDLab, she had two-year postdoctoral position at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies of the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain).  She was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Polytecnic University of Valencia (Valencia, Spain) and at BCAM-Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (Bilbao, Spain). She conducted research stays at Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA) and at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York, USA). 

She has received several national and international awards including "IFMBE Young investigator" prize at the 6th European Conference of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering in 2014; Predoctoral and Postdoctoral competitive Fellowships from the Generalitat Valenciana (Spain), Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Spanish Ministerio de Economia, Industria y Competitividad; Vali+D mobility grant from Generalitat Valenciana (Spain); Fulbright/Ruth Lee Kennedy travel award; Jose Castillejo Mobility Grant for young researchers from the Spanish Ministerio de Economia, Industria y Competitividad; and several travel grants of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. She is active member of the Society for Thermal Medicine and American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
