How much do I have to pay if I register at NUI Galway in September 2017 as a new full-time 1st year student?
All EU full-time undergraduate programmes contain three elements:
(1) student levy of €224;
(2) student contribution charge of €3,000 and
(3) tuition fee which varies for each Bachelor Programme (for example Arts is €2,598)**
If you are an Irish / EU / Official Irish Refugee school leaver, attending a full-time undergraduate course (minimum 2 years duration), you have never been to University (3rd level) in the EU or Ireland before September 2017 and you have been living in an EU member state for three of the past five years and you are not a degree holder, you automatically qualify to have part (3) the tuition paid on your behalf. It is not means tested. If you are offered a place in NUI Galway you will be invited to register online. During the online registration process, you will be assessed for the tuition fee online (element 3 above).
If you have applied for a SUSI grant (Student Universal Support Ireland – www.susi.ie) and are deemed eligible, you pay element (1) above (€224). This means that SUSI may pay (2) the student contribution charge of €3,000 (or a portion of it) on your behalf. If you are offered a place in NUIG you will be invited to input your SUSI W1617 reference number online at registration as you may not have final confirmation before online registration commences. The Fees Office would require confirmation of your SUSI funding by 31/10/17.
If you are offered a place in NUIG and you are not on a SUSI grant but are eligible for (3) free tuition fees, you pay €3,224. This can be paid in full on registration or €1,724 on registration and €1,500 by 31/01/18.
If you have been to third level before September 2017, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your CAO number and the course you hope to be offered, along with the duration of your studies prior to September 2017. If you are offered a place at NUI Galway the Fees Office will quote you a fee to be paid on Registration; or in two equal instalments 50% on registration and 50% by 31/01/18.
