Biography

Shanshan Du is a post-doctoral researcher working at REMEDI since October 2022. She completed her PhD at the University of Galway from 2017 to 2022. Before working in Ireland, she received a BSc degree in Biology Science and an MSc degree in Physiology at Hebei Normal University and worked for around four years as a TEM/SEM technician at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. Her research focuses on developing advanced therapy medicinal products using mesenchymal stromal cells, biomaterials and macromolecular crowding, for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.  She has successfully established a diabetic wound healing model using immunodeficient nude mice and has investigated a few cell delivery approaches for the treatment of diabetic wounds. She is currently an EDF COUNTERACT fund-supported researcher, working on the preclinical efficacy evaluation of a commercialised product on lung infection.

Research Interests

Developing advanced therapy medicinal products using mesenchymal stromal cells, biomaterials and macromolecular crowding.
Cell therapy for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and other types of skin wounds.
Treatment for lung infection, pneumonia and/or ARDS.
