Dementia Carer’s Research Project

Dementia Research

Nature of the study

This study is being undertaken by the Centre for Economic and Social Research on Dementia at NUI Galway. It looks at carer’s experience of caring for a person diagnosed with dementia or probable dementia since the beginning of 2017.

This research will inform service providers and policy makers of the needs of carers and people with dementia in the two years following diagnosis. We are interested in getting carers views on the level of support they provide to a person with dementia, as well as details on services currently provided by the HSE and other agencies. We will also offer the option to participate in a follow-up survey in 12 months to see what, if anything, has changed and what services and supports are available then.

What’s involved?

If you agree to be a participant in this research, you will be asked to complete a survey that can be posted to you, or if you prefer completed online. The survey takes about 45 minutes to complete. It will ask about your current caring situation and services you and your loved one use. All of the surveys will be returned to Dr Patricia Carney at NUI Galway.
