University Road Entrance (South Campus)

  • Arriving in Galway on the main N6, follow signs for the N59 (Galway-Oughterard/Clifden), crossing the River Corrib at the Quincentennial Bridge.
  • Immediately after the Quincentennial Bridge, take a left turn at the traffic light controlled crossroads and follow the signs for city centre/University/hospital.
  • Continue through three sets of traffic lights (approx. 1km) to large junction with University Hospital on the right.
  • Take filter lane to the left onto University Road and the main entrance to NUI Galway is approximately 100m from this junction on the left-hand side.

Newcastle Road Entrance (South Campus)

  • Arriving in Galway on the main N6, follow signs for the N59 (Galway-Oughterard/Clifden), crossing the River Corrib at the Quincentennial Bridge.
  • Immediately after the Quincentennial Bridge, take a left turn at the traffic light controlled crossroads.
  • The Newcastle Road entrance is the first left after the petrol station.

Upper Newcastle Entrance (Central Campus)

  • Arriving in Galway on the main N6, follow signs for the N59 (Galway-Oughterard/Clifden), crossing the River Corrib at the Quincentennial Bridge.
  • Go through the traffic lights and take exit 5 at the next roundabout (bringing you back towards the Quincentennial Bridge).
  • Take a left turn at the traffic lights. The Upper Newcastle entrance is the first right.

Corrib Village Entrance (North Campus)

  • Arriving in Galway on the main N6, follow signs for the N59 (Galway-Oughterard/Clifden), crossing the River Corrib at the Quincentennial Bridge.
  • Go through the traffic lights and take exit 5 at the next roundabout (bringing you back towards the Quincentennial Bridge).
  • Take a left turn at the traffic lights and continue for 1km. You will see the Corrib Village entrance on your right.
  • Should you wish to get to the Dangan Park & Ride Car Park, take an immediate left. Please note: you must register in advance, online, for a permit. Further parking information can be found below.

Parking on Campus for Conference Delegates

  • Please check the website of the conference you are attending for the locations of conference venues prior to arriving on campus. Campus maps can be found here.
  • Parking on campus is very limited and it is recommended you do not drive to the campus if possible.
  • If you are driving, please note restrictions are in place Monday to Friday and the following are the very limited parking options:

Free parking:

  • For visitors wishing to park on campus, you must register in advance, online, for a permit. Please contact the conference organiser for instructions on how to register.
  • Permits have been arranged to facilitate access to the Park & Ride Car Park ONLY. Please note that this car park also has very limited space available. To get to this car park, please use the Corrib Village entrance to the campus (directions are detailed above).
  • A shuttle bus will be in operation from the P&R car park to the main campus. Click here for shuttle timetable.
  • Please ensure to park in white line spaces only. Payment is required if you park in blue lined spaces. All illegally parked vehicles, including cars not registered for a conference permit, will be clamped.

Paid parking:

  • Option 1: Blue-lined Pay and Display (P&D) spaces only on campus. Please note that P&D tickets only apply to spaces marked in blue adjacent to the meters - P&D tickets do not allow you to park anywhere else. Permit holders must purchase a ticket if parking in a P&D space.
  • Option 2: Cathedral Car Park is approximately 5-7 minutes’ walk, charges apply, cost is approximately €4-5 per day.

Please note:

  • Your permit/P&D ticket allows you to park in specific places and you must familiarise yourself with the zones.
  • Allow plenty of time on your first visit to campus with your car.
  • Please note you may park on the main campus without a permit after 17.30 and on Saturday/Sunday.
