Victoria Sanchez-Munoz won best poster at our School Research Day for "Nash Equilibria in certain two-choice multi-player games played on the ladder graph". Best runners up were:
Róisín Hill for "Layer-adapted meshes generated using mesh PDEs"
Lydia King for "Assessing the Role of Genomics Data in Stratifying Patients within Predictive Models for Breast Cancer Outcomes"

Dr. Harold Berjamin gave a talk on “A hyperbolic framework for shear sound beams in nonlinear solids”, Elasticity Day 2021 (virtual), 21-22 April 2021, Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge (UK)
Mariel Barbachan e Silva and Pilib Ó Broin's paper: "Optimisation of cancer status prediction pipelines using bio-inspired computing" has been selected for oral presentation at the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC2021).
Beatrice Charamba gave a talk on her "Bayesian concurrent functional regression for sensor data" at the Conference on Applied Statistics in Ireland on May 13th.
Dr. Pilib Ó Broin and Prof. Cathal Seoighe are part of a consortium that was successful in its application to the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF) run by the Dept. of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. This is a €10.5m project involving new technologies, supported by machine learning, for the scalable development of personalized cancer immunotherapies. The DTIF will provide €6.8m in funding with €660k coming to the School.
Prof. John Newell was successful (along with PI Andrew Murphy) in the HRB Primary Care Clinical Trials Network call, securing funding of €999,979.75.
Dr. Pilib Ó Broin and his PhD student Barry Digby have been awarded an NUI Galway Open Educational Resources (OER) grant, receiving €3k (max available €3.5). Their project is entitled "Ensuring equality of access to STEM outreach material through the creation of a bilingual open educational resource for genomics data science”.
Dr. Emil Sköldberg, his PhD student Peter Phelan and collaborator Milo Orlich (Aalto University) have also been awarded an OER grant of €3k. Their project is entitled “An open textbook for algebraic coding theory”.
Dr. Giuseppe Zurlo will be Visiting Professor at Università La Sapienza, in Roma from May 24th to June 24th, delivering a 20hr PhD course on Nonlinear Elasticity and doing research with local hosting team

Prof. Michel Destrade gave a talk at a conference on "Engineered Materials for Sustainable Structures", Modena, Italy (online), 26-28 April
Dr. Bharat Tripathi gave a talk on "Formation of Shear Shock waves in Human Head Phantom for Traumatic Brain Injury" in 6th Oxford International Neuron and Brain Mechanics Workshop (April 19-20, 2021), Oxford, UK (Oral)
Dr. Andrew Simpkin is welcoming Sara Geremia from Università di Bologna, who won an Erasmus grant to travel and complete her MSc at our School
