Good health and wellbeing          SDG 4 - Quality Education          Sustainable development goal 10 - reduced inequalities

Area/Purpose of Work

Supporting under-represented (marginalised) children in youth with studies and extracurricular activities

This 10ECTS module is delivered through 2-hour classes and 3-4 hours engaging with the community every week. The framework informing this module is the Social Determinants of Health, and students are required to integrate this framework in their weekly reflection journals, which are a big part of their module assessment. In the journal students are expected to reflect on the experience in the community and link it in with theory, and use the theory to inform their future learning. Each week, we discuss a certain group in society in the lecture, and the tutorial that follows is used to share their experiences in the community, creating another avenue for connecting the theory with practice, to fully integrate the concept of deep learning. In the final essay, students are asked to combine the literature and their experience, while critically reflecting on how the theory applies to their work in the community.

Assessment

CEL is a core part of the module, and it is fully integrated into the lectures, tutorials and assessment. The assessment includes weekly reflection journals based on CEL (30%) and a final essay that links theory to practice (70%). The module is entirely dependent on completion of CEL
