‌‌‌2nd Year Pharmacology

  • Pharmacology is taught to 2nd-year science students from undenominated science as well as denominated programs such as biomedical science, biotechnology, and biopharmaceutical chemistry.
  • Two 5 ECTS modules are available to students as elective modules in the first semester.
  • Students can also take a 10 ECTS module in the second semester, which contains laboratory practicals.
  • 2nd-year modules introduce students to the fundamental concepts of what drugs are, how they work, how they interact within the body, how they are developed and how they interact at a molecular level to cure disease.

Semester I:

  • Fundamentals of Pharmacology (PM208 - 5 ECTS - Available as elective)‌
  • Applied Concepts in Pharmacology (PM209 - 5 ECTS - Available as elective)‌

Semester II:

  • Molecular Pharmacology & Signalling (PM210 - 10 ECTS - Can only be taken by Pharmacology pathway students)

3rd Year Pharmacology

  • Pharmacology is taught to 3rd year science students from undenominated science as well as the denominated biomedical science degree programme.
  • Two modules are taken in the first semester worth 15 ECTS in total (a 10 ECTS + a 5 ECTS module) while 15 ECTS (3 x 5 ECTS modules) are also taken in the second semester to give a total of 30 ECTS.
  • The 3rd year modules focus on specific diseases and the drugs used to treat them as well as an introduction to toxicology and some applied aspects of pharmacology.

Semester I:

  • Drugs & Disease (PM309 - 10 ECTS) ‌
  • Introduction to Toxicology (PM311 - 5 ECTS - Available as elective)

Semester II:     ‌

  • Applied Pharmacology (PM3101 - 5 ECTS)
  • Neuropharmacology (PM3102 – 5 ECTS)
  • Advanced Pharmacology (PM3103 – 5 ECTS)

4th Year Pharmacology

  1. To provide the students with a sound theoretical knowledge of advanced aspects of pharmacology.
  2. To encourage the students to approach scientific reading and writing in a critical and unbiased manner.
  3. To develop their written, verbal and visual scientific presentation skills.
  4. To expose the students to a “real” research environment through a 12-week independent research project.
