Advanced Research Methods
Module code NU502 - September (PFC1)
Please note: The module is taught in Semester 1, starting in September
Credit Weighting: 10 ECTS
Module Description: This module is designed to enable students to explore the methodological and practical issues of research. It will help students determine the appropriate research design for research questions in their practice and provides an opportunity for students to debate, challenge and clarify research issues. This module will also help students understand the systematic review process and types of reviews. Finally, the module prepares students to develop a research protocol.
The module will be delivered using blended learning over 10 weeks and is subdivided into three units as follows:
Unit 1: Overview of research methods and methodologies
Unit 2: Close review of quantitative and qualitative approaches
Unit 3: Evidence synthesis
The module team are active researchers who enjoy sharing their experience of real life research.
Target Market
This module is multidisciplinary and welcomes applications from nurses and midwives irrespective of practice setting and also other healthcare professionals from wider multidisciplinary team (including medical doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists).
