New video-learning initiative from Microbiology at University of Galway
Microbiology has produced and launched a suite of teaching videos to help 3rd and 2nd level teaching of microbiology. 40 technical videos, each of ~5-7 mins and describing techniques used in our BSc Microbiology teaching labs, were launched on a dedicated “Microbiology teaching videos at NUI Galway” YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsP4xz5aq7sWfR9eXSCd_QQ) by President Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh of University of Galway on May 28th 2019.
The two-year project was led by Dr Katrina Lacey and involved PhD students and staff from throughout Microbiology. The YouTube channel is freely available to 2nd and 3rd level students to assist them in their studies in microbiology and the biosciences. MSc Biotechnology
Congratulations to our MSc Biotechnology team Dr Aoife Boyd, Dr Mary Ní Fhlathartaigh & Aileen Gill. The programme won the Higher Education Award in Science.
This University of Galway MSc Biotechnology programme is the longest running course of its kind in Ireland and it continues to be the most up-to-date programme in the country. This postgraduate programme is highly regarded nationally and internationally as a programme through which students develop the skills, knowledge and experience required for a successful career in biotechnology. The judges’ comment for the Postgraduate Course of the Year – Science award win was as follows:“Really well thought-through course, with an excellent placement record.”
