Micro-credentials Introduction for Learners

Are you interested in up-skilling or re-skilling?

Am I eligible to take a Micro-credentials?

Each Micro-credential has its own prerequisite or sometimes none, depending on the topic type. An outline of what is required is supplied under the module description so make sure you check that before applying.

How do I apply?

You can apply for a Micro-credential by following the application process for Micro-credentials/CPD courses which is completed through our online application portal (watch video below). The module descriptor for each micro-credential is listed on the individual micro-credential webpages

To note a Micro-credential will only run if enough places are filled. Learners will be notified as soon as possible of any cancellations.

Where do I get further information?

Usually, a contact person is identified on each module description. However if you have difficulties please contact microcreds@universityofgalway.ie or the Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development at University of Galway.

What will a Micro-credential mean for my career or future study?

Having a Micro-credential will mean that you have studied for a university level course and completed it to this standard. Each Micro-credential will give you skills and knowledge which will be directly related to the work environment and should assist in your career development.  In some instances Micro-credentials may be of benefit for your Recognition of Prior Learning, when taking other related higher awards at the university.

What are the fees and can I get any help to finance a Micro-credential?

Micro-credentials are all priced differently based on the course type and other factors. Some of the Micro-credentials benefit from Next Level Skillnet & Galway Executive SkillNet funding and others may have other supports. Check out the information on each individual module for more assistance on this.
