Fáilte chuig Roinn na Gaeilge, Ollscoil na Gaillimhe

Is í Ollscoil na Gaillimhe an t-aon ollscoil atá lonnaithe ar bhruach na Gaeltachta agus tá pobal bríomhar cainteoirí Gaeilge san ollscoil. Buntáiste mór é sin do mhic léinn a bhfuil suim acu staidéar a dhéanamh ar an nGaeilge!

Tá clú agus cáil ar léachtóirí Roinn na Gaeilge as a gcuid saineolais i réimsí éagsúla de Léann na Gaeilge. Tá breis is 200 foilseachán acadúil ag foireann na Roinne. Tá ár gcuid teagaisc bunaithe ar ár gcuid taighde. Creidimid gur chóir litríocht agus cultúr na Gaeilge a thuiscint i gcomhthéacs domhanda.

Tá suim ar leith ag foireann Roinn na Gaeilge dlúthchaidreamh a chothú le pobail teanga eile, go háirithe lucht labhartha na dteangacha Ceilteacha agus teangacha dúchais eile. Cuireann foireann Roinn na Gaeilge an tSibhialtacht Cheilteach ar fáil mar ábhar fochéime freisin, ábhar ina ndéantar staidéar ar oidhreacht agus ar litríocht na gCeilteach in Éirinn, sa Bhreatain agus ar Mhór-Roinn na hEorpa le breis is dhá mhíle bliain anuas.

Gach bliain ó 1992 i leith, cuirtear fáilte roimh scoláirí Gaeilge ó chéin agus ó chóngar chuig ár gcomhdháil An Chomhdháil ar Litríocht agus ar Chultúr na Gaeilge.

Welcome to the Discipline of Irish at the University of Galway

Ollscoil na Gaillimhe - University of Galway is situated on the threshold of the Gaeltacht and the student who studies Irish here has a particular advantage and additional opportunities to engage with an Irish-speaking community. Irish is also the everyday language spoken in Áras na Gaeilge, a dedicated building in the centre of campus in which most of our teaching takes place. It is also home to the student society An Cumann Gaelach.

Our lecturers in Roinn na Gaeilge are dedicated, research-active staff. As a team, we have over 200 peer-reviewed publications. We locate the study of Irish literature and culture in a broad historical and global context.

The discipline is particularly interested in maintaining a close relationship with other language communities, in particular speakers of Celtic languages and of other minoritised languages. To this end, the staff of Roinn na Gaeilge also offer Celtic Civilisation as an undergraduate subject, a subject which examines the linguistic heritage and associated literatures and cultures of Celtic-speakers over the last 2000 years.

Since 1992, Roinn na Gaeilge hosts an annual Irish-language literature and culture conference which attracts eminent scholars and post-graduate students from Ireland, Europe, and North America.
