Please note: that 2021/22 Stage 1 Pre-recorded Presentations will not be completed until mid-August. Currently there are a mix of last years presentations and this years below. 

Welcome to NUI Galway.

I hope you are well in these exceptional and uncertain times that we are all experiencing.

You are invited to attend our virtual Postgraduate Research Orientation.

Orientation seeks to welcome you and provide you with the necessary information as you start your research journey at NUI Galway.
Orientation will be in three stages (See below).

Attendance at our Orientation is obligatory. Your attendance will be recorded at Stage 2 and 3 so you are requested to log in to the sessions using your full student name.

Orientation will give you the opportunity to learn more about

-the graduate research environment at NUI Galway
-commencing your research programme
-services provided by the university 

Orientation also gives you the opportunity to meet staff and other students.

Orientation Stages

Stage 1 - Pre-recorded presentations

Pre-recorded presentations will be available on this Orientation webpage in mid-August.Please review each of these presentations prior to Stage 2 and Stage 3.

To view subtitles (if not provided within presentation)

  • Google Chrome browser can generate captions for any audio or video file which you are watching/listening to in the browser (Settings > Advanced > Accessibility > Live Captions).
    Or
  • When going to each video presentation, if subtitles not available–select Watch on YouTube, you will have an option to open transcript for subtitles. Click on the 3 small dots under email video and select Open Transcript.

Stage 2  - University level live’ virtual Orientation 

  • For those registered for their research programme before the 1st September – Log into the 2122 1GST1 Blackboard module and click on Virtual Orientation option in the left-hand menu.
  • Click on Stage 2 - University Orientation Q&A 
  • For those not yet registered before the 1st September – a guest link will be sent to you late August providing you access to the session.

Stage 3 - College Induction/Orientation 

College Induction/Orientation is organised by the Vice-Deans of Graduate Studies in your relevant College.

University level Campus Tours, Social and Specific Support Service events are expected to take place between 6th – 17th of September for all incoming students.
These events are being organised by our Student Services Offices. Further details/guidance to follow on these.  

Further Supports for Incoming International Students
The International Office are running some pre-arrival sessions over the next few weeks.
They will also provide presentations and other relevant information on their webpage http://www.nuigalway.ie/international-orientation/.
