Protocol on the use of Titles, Affiliation to the Medical School and to the University.

Honorary Academic titles are formally awarded by the University to recognise academic engagement at the level appropriate to statutory academic appointments. The title denotes the academic dimension in professional life, and carries the name of the University and the Medical School within the clinical domain.
 

Strict conformity with the following is required in its usage:

  1. When formally used in letterheads and reports, the title must always be referred in full as per its formal designation.
  2. The formal usage is always in the form such as “Professor A.N. Other, Honorary Personal Professor in (discipline /specialty)”.
  3. Abbreviated usage is permissible in more casual circumstances in the form of “Personal Professor A.N. Other”.
  4. The link to the Medical School must always be made apparent in publications of an academic nature; - such as in teaching documentation, presentations, reports and research papers etc. This link is established through:
    1. The correct use of titles as above, and
    2. The addition of the University Logo according to the University guideline for such.
    3. Referencing University assistance or support where appropriate.
    4. Publishing otherwise in a manner which generates recognition of the School and University affiliation.
    5. Ensuring that all research publications are recorded in the University Research databases and are otherwise traceable as research outputs of the Medical School.
