Ms Niamh Lally
| Niamh is a graduate of Psychology from University College Dublin and currently writing up her PhD with Trinity College Dublin entitled "A case of higher education and transition opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities in Ireland: the promise and denial of adulthood?". Her research is situated within a multi-dimensional framework of current disability, social justice, and sociology of adulthood theorising. Niamh's research interests focus on the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, with a particular focus on inclusive education and research. In that capacity Niamh has worked with and for a range of higher education institutes in Ireland, Europe and Australia to implement, coordinate and evaluate the first ever programmes for students with intellectual disabilities to access higher education.
| Niamh worked as Research and Development Officer at the National Institute for Intellectual Disability (NIID) Trinity College Dublin (2008 -2013) and coordinated research projects funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Health Service Executive (HSE) and National Council for Special Education (NCSE). Niamh joined the team at CDLP in January 2014 in supporting the preparation of amicus briefs, legislative submissions, briefings documents and working papers, as well as the Centre’s extensive programme of research and education events.
Much of her research focuses on inclusive research with the aim of developing research capacity among people with intellectual disability and their supporters. She has trained students with the knowledge and skills to understand and take part in projects as researchers drawing from the work of the Inclusive Research Network in Ireland whilst also supporting the work of the Inclusive Research Network in New South Wales, Australia.
