Multidisciplinary approach to studying human biology

Examining how the human body works

Research opportunities range from the molecular level, to the cellular level, to investigation at the level of the whole body.

The Discipline of Physiology is primarily affiliated to the School of Medicine at NUI Galway. Teaching staff includes one professor, eight lecturers and two technicians. Approximately 400 students every year choose to study Physiology, Medicine (160/year), Biomedical-science (60/Year), up to 40 science students choose Physiology as their primary degree while upwards of 120/year take Physiology in 2nd year undenominated Science. The Department is also involved in teaching to nursing students, industrial engineering and biomedical engineering students.
