Welcome to the Discipline of Speech & Language Therapy
The Discipline of Speech and Language Therapy was established in NUI Galway in 2003 and offers a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research programmes. It is one of four disciplines within the School of Health Sciences and forms part of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. Speech and Language Therapy joins the Institute for Lifecourse and Society (ILAS). ILAS is a newly designated research institute for the applied social sciences at NUI Galway.
The overall aim of the Discipline of Speech and Language Therapy is to design, deliver, and promote education and research in the field of communication sciences and disability.
Our team is dynamic, enthusiastic, and student-centred. Our lecturers, many of whom have years of clinical experience, aim to provide a supportive learning environment for students. We use a use a broad range of teaching, learning, and assessment strategies to enable students to reach their maximum potential and achieve their goals. Collaboration is a fundamental part of our philosophy and our innovative curricula have been designed with input from practitioners and service users. We value person-centredness and include the voice of people with communication disability in all aspects of our teaching and research. We are located in Áras Moyola, a purpose built building, which has modern lecture and tutorial rooms, an on-site speech and language therapy clinic, voice analysis facilities, a student resource room, and computer suite.
