Procurement Foundation Workshop: How to Buy

The How to Buy workshop is the Foundation Course in the Procurement Training Calendar and is essential for all staff members who have any involvement in the purchase to pay process from sourcing suppliers, getting pricing, making buying decisions, the importance of POs/invoices,  and the different factors that must be considered and can influence how this process is done.   This course explains the basic principles of procurement, the importance of how much is being spent, when to get quotations, how to decide what supplier to use, when further authorisation is required etc.    Participants are also taken on a guided tour of the Procurement & Contracts Office website where they can see the process information, guidance and template documents and details of the centralized contracts currently available.   The site also includes a Reference Section, where more detail on the processes is included.  Click to Register

Procurement Workshop: Managing Quotation/Mini Competition Processes

While the majority of day-to-day purchases are well below tendering threshold values, this does not remove the obligation to seek best value for money, nor does it remove the overriding obligation for openness and transparency.  Many of our current centralised contracts are Framework Agreement types, which means that staff are REQUIRED to use the mini-competition process in order to select the supplier.    Budget Holders and nominees are responsible and accountable to ensure that these processes are completed in line with the guidance received through this course and also on our intranet pages.     The aim of this workshop is to provide University Budget Holders and their nominees with an understanding of how to specify your requirements, seek quotations/mini-competition quotes, and evaluate responses received from suppliers while maintaining the goals of attaining value for money and ensuring compliance with the University’s Procurement Policy.    This half day workshop covers all important aspects of the quotation/mini-competition process and is very worthwhile for all staff who have a responsibility for purchasing.
