Biography:
Dr. Moore has a BsC Hons in Geology (1994) from Edinburgh University, a PhD (1998) from Bristol University and a Diploma in Archaeology (2006) from the National University of Ireland Galway. The PhD entitled "Melting of a Carbonated Mantle" was a high pressure experimental investigation of the variation in magma composition above the peridotite-CO2 solidus at 3GPa. This was followed by a temporary teaching appointment in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol and a short appointment as the Air Quality Monitoring Officer at Montserrat Volcano Observatory, West Indes. Dr. Moore is now a permanent lecturer in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the National University of Ireland Galway. She lectures in igneous petrology and geochemistry, the geological evolution of the Earth and runs the annual final year undergraduate fieldtrip to Cyprus. She is also the Postgraduate Studies Co-ordinator for the Department and serves on the Quality Committee of the University. She has given public lectures and run fieldtrips in Ireland and abroad for amateur geological organisations. Her research focusses on the petrogenesis of carbonatites and related rocks, ancient economic geology and geoarchaeology, and Irish Palaeozoic volcanology. She is also researching the history and organising the conservation of a native American birchbark canoe from the James Mitchell Geology Museum at NUIG. |
Research Interests
Ongoing projects, including supervision of PhD students, are multi-disciplinary investigations of carbonatites and related rocks from Brazil, Uzbekistan, the East African Rift and Ireland; theoretical investigations into the physical behaviour of carbonated magmas and their production; the stratigraphy and three-dimensional interpretation of Palaeozoic volcanic rocks in Ireland and mechanisms of ore formation within these; prehistoric economic geology and landscape interpretation in western Ireland. Dr. Moore leads the Magmatic Studies Group and is the leader for Team 4 (NUIG) of the INTAS project 'Diamond and Graphite in Carbonate Magmas'. |
