Neurodegenerative Disorders & Neuroregeneration

Neurodegenerative disorders are a heterogeneous group of disorders that are characterized by the progressive degeneration of the structure and function of the nervous system. Although certain treatments may help relieve some of the physical or mental symptoms associated with neurodegenerative disorders, slowing their progression is not currently possible, and no cures exist. Cases of neurodegeneration worldwide are predicted to rise dramatically with the aging population, posing a significant threat to global healthcare systems.  Many promising strategies for promoting neuroregeneration have emerged in the past few years, but there is a need for these ideas to be translated into therapies for neurodegenerative diseases and for repair following traumatic brain and spinal cord injury.
